Grandma Sue’s Apple Butter

It’s that time of year again. The air is crisp, the leaves start changing, and people turn into fall obsessed, pumpkin spice loving, boot wearing crazies! Don’t get me wrong, I love fall and everything about it. I just think its hilarious how much attention fall gets! You would get a weird look if you said something like, “I can’t wait to wear sunscreen and hide from the blistering sun this summer!”

I especially have a soft spot for fall this year because we are expecting our second son in October. I am 34 weeks along and I am so ready for summer to be over! I know there are tons of moms out there that can sympathize with me, so I am not going to go into details. All I want to say is it has been a HOT summer! So bring on fall and all the crazies!

Okay my rant about fall is over. What I’d like to share with you today is Grandma Sue’s Apple Butter recipe! Grandma gave me tons of apples, so what better thing to do then make her apple butter. The aroma of allspice and cloves turns me into one of those crazy fall people! And it will you, too! If you are looking for a sugar free recipe….I am sorry, this is not for you. But when you spread this spiced jam on a fresh baked biscuit, you will be thanking me for every calorie!

Apple Butter

10 C. Apples (peeled and cubed)

8 C. Sugar

1/2 C. Vinegar

2 tsp. Cinnamon

1 tsp. Allspice (ground)

1 tsp. Cloves (ground)

Peel and cut apples, put them into a crock pot with all other ingredients and cook  on low for 10 to 12 hours. Apples will cook down. Apple butter makes a great gift!

November Decorating

Do you guys decorate your home for different seasons? Only for Christmas? For every holiday possible? You’re the person that has a St Patrick’s Day wreath for your front door, aren’t you?

Hey. It’s okay. No judgement here. If I had the time and resources, I’d probably redecorate my home multiple times a year. It’s just so fun to get something new or move things around. Even just switching out art or photographs in a frame.

Happy Fall |

Sometimes we get so used to seeing the same thing every day that we forget the meaning behind the picture in the first place. At least for me, I feel like I walk past the same pictures every day and forget to actually look at them or remember why I hung them in the first place. This happy fall print is a free download from Emily.

But then fall comes around…and there’s Halloween to motivate me to switch things up. And of course after that comes Christmas! The most wonderful time of the year!

Give Thanks Banner |

But I feel like in the hustle to get to Christmas, I often overlook Thanksgiving. And I don’t mean to. I don’t want to. So the past couple of years I’ve been more purposeful about letting Thanksgiving have its place in our home before we rush on to Christmas.

Fall Mantel |

I found this Thankful pillow at Target this year and had to bring it home with me. It’s relevant all year long, but I love the reminder it presents as we’re gathered on the couch.

Thankful |

Ember picked those two small pumpkins at the pumpkin patch this year, and she loves pointing at them and carrying them around the house 🙂

This feather pillow is also a Target find. It has such great fall colors, and is so perfectly fall to me. Without actually screaming fall.

I made this GIVE THANKS banner a few years ago. It was so simple – just print off your letters and cut them in your desired shape. Add some holes with a hole punch, string them on some colorful ribbon and you’ve got yourself a banner. Easy to customize for any occasion!

And just to make you all feel better about yourselves…here’s what our living room actually looked like as I was snapping these pictures 🙂 See, I’m all about making you feel good. You’re welcome.
